Who this role is for

  • Relationship-driven and detail-oriented BDMs
  • Technically minded and interested in engineering design, product design, and innovative solutions
  • Engineers looking to take on new challenges with intrinsically-led, uncapped growth.

What this role is

1. High degree of project and process ownership with real-world impact

  • You are directly responsible for changing the lifecycle of products, ecosystems, and Fortune 500 company success stories through our turnkey engineering approach. This is a self-directed role where your success is solely dependent on the drive and passion you put in.

2. Selling solutions, not services, not products

  • Services are only a means to solutions; products are the end goal. Our goal at EM is not to serve our clients, but to develop turnkey engineering solutions that encapsulate and expand their visions, ending with a product that integrates seamlessly into existing ecosystems and uplifts end-user experience.

3. Quality and detail-oriented

  • Every project is different and requires a unique approach to executing on client visions. Your goal as a business development manager is to capture their visions through our service portfolio, identifying and proposing turnkey engineering solutions that specifically address pain points and end-user concerns.

Who this role isn’t for

New graduates

Candidates with large dependencies (requiring high workplace stability)

Sole Account Managers

What this role isn't

1. A “Sell-at-all costs” role

  • Integrity and transparency with a strict adherence to ethics are core principles of EM. If something is outside of our capabilities or expertise, we are more than willing to point, refer, and guide clients in the right direction to assist them on their journey; Relationship-driven support with an emphasis on long-term partnerships is the goal.

2. A “Smile & Dial” role

  • You are at your sole direction with little to no intervention or frequent checkups – not to say you will be alone. You will frequently collaborate with engineering and technical teams to develop the solutions that address client pain points in a turnkey manner. There are no preset call lists; there is one standard pathway. Building out a successful business, especially in the engineering services industry, is an intense endeavor that requires immense dedication to the craft.

3. Another sales role

  • To clients, you are not just a salesman; you are a translator for technical breadth to digestible, intrinsically educational information. Your relationship with the client is equally as important as the technical brilliance of the solution developed. Your success at EM is not measured by revenue generated; it is a factor of your being the glue between the building blocks of a client's vision – a relationship-centric, value-driven ideology.

Role Type, Term, & Required Travel

This role is a 1099 Independent Contractor position, following all IRS, Federal, and local labor guidelines – you set your schedule; you bring and own your equipment. The role is predominantly remote; however, project- and location-dependent, some travel and work at client sites are required. All candidates must be United States citizens with all applicable permits and licenses to work and reside within the United States. Preference is given to candidates operating within the Detroit and Indianapolis metropolitan areas, extending for applicable travel within the respective state – EM’s local office’s onsite service areas.

This role has no preset contract length, with performance and results dictating project success and further engagement. The role remains in a contract position status until engagement becomes frequent, integral, and necessary enough to cross over into an official (W2 classification), full-time position. EM reserves the right to, at any time, choose to move the position into a full-time (W2) position as required by law, project, or any other metric for which both parties must accept terms to be negotiated at that time. Either party may choose to terminate the contract at any time for any reason, with 14 business days' notice.

Why EM?

1. Client-centric ideologies extending to our employees

  • EM ensures all employees have all the resources at hand to become the best versions of themselves.

2. Innovators of industry foundations

  • The projects you touch involve real progress in industry, empowering the solutions that solve the insurmountable.

3. Flexibility & Growth

  • Work on the projects you are passionate about; drive the change you want to see; it doesn’t cap your growth – your success is solely derived from the effort you put in.

Payroll

USD 75.00-90.00/hr (depending on experience, qualifications, and engagement), biweekly.

Who this role is for

  • Subject Matter Experts & independent consultants
  • Traditionally employed or freelance engineers seeking additional work
  • Engineers looking to take on more project responsibility and new challenges

What this role is

1. High degree of project ownership with real-world impact

  • Most projects operate in smaller teams (3-5 engineers) where your contributions directly affect the outcome and success of the solutions developed. Your developments directly empower the solutions of tomorrow. Working within larger teams (50+) occasionally occurs, depending on the industry.

2. Requires innovative and quick iterative design

  • The nature of product design and engineering consulting often involves changing and incomplete requirements, where the volatility of R&D requires quick, innovative design and turnkey iterations to achieve project success. Time-to-Market is a prime concern of our clients.

3. Quality and detail-oriented

  • At EM, turnkey ecosystems are our bread and butter; ensuring developed solutions integrate seamlessly into their applications and are as simple as turning a key requires a high degree of attention to detail and quality. We do things right the first time.

Who this role isn’t for

  • New graduates
  • Candidates with large dependencies (requiring high workplace stability)
  • Vibe Coders/Heavily AI-centric developers

What this role isn't

1. A slow-moving corporate engineering role

  • Project volatility changes rapidly, requiring immense flexibility.

2. A purely analytical/design-only position

  • This is a client-facing role where the application and integration are part of the responsibility.

3. A role where you wait for straightforward direction/push buttons

  • Product design and engineering consulting often involve vague and incomplete requirements, where the volatility of R&D exposes the quality of engineers quickly.
